The difference between solid and engineered
Solid can be affected by water and moisture, so. wipe spills immediately. Even when you polish, dry the floor thoroughly so the liquid doesn't get between the boards. As in solid or engineered, thickness will determine the number of times it can be sanded and refinished. The range for solid is 5/16 to ¾-inch it can be sanded from four to six times, usually every 10 years or so. With proper maintenance, it will last many decades. It's best if the installation is done by a professional; it starts with a tongue and groove where the pieces fit into each other; then the floor needs to be nailed or glued.
With engineered, the only difference is the construction. Rather than one big slab throughout the thickness, this is layered and then crisscrossed. The top, also sometimes called the veneer layer, is a slice of genuine wood, so the undertones, knots, grains, wormholes will shine through. Underneath are three or more layers of genuine wood combined with a little resin. The final result is a floor that’s more stable and better able to handle water. The thickness shouldn't be less than ⅝-inch, but thicker is better. Depending on that, the floors can be sanded from one to four or five times. Popular species for either version are oak, maple, hickory, and walnut.
